The Penthouse Kolkata

The Glenburn Penthouse is a welcome arrival in the magical and historic city of Kolkata. The Penthouse is a discreet, residence right in the heart of the city, providing spectacular views of all her iconic landmarks below.  These include the fabled domes of Victoria Memorial, the tropical Eden Gardens and lush Maidan, and of course the majestic River Hoogly on her journey.

Created by the dynamic team at Glenburn Tea Estate's boutique hotel in Darjeeling, the interiors are seriously smart with signature prints, an exquisite collection of antique Bengal colonial furniture and artworks which have been lovingly curated to create a haven of tranquil luxury high above the bustling city.

The elegant Drawing and Dining Rooms are reminiscent of a bygone era with bespoke flocked wallpapers and elegant furnishings. The balcony and Tea Verandah provide wonderful views, the perfect spot for outdoor dining, especially for breakfast and afternoon tea. The inspired menus combine a blend of Colonial, Anglo-Indian and Kolkata street food using only the freshest local ingredients.

Each of the unique, nine airy suites have a large sleeping area with regal four poster beds covered in hand-embroidered luxury cotton sheets, desks, mirrored furnishings and sitting areas flooded in natural light filtering through the wooden shutters. The large ‘white-marble’ bathrooms are all equipped with bathtubs and walk-in showers.

The outer terrace leads you to the infinity pool overlooking the city below, along with the sun deck with its whimsical cane furniture.  There are many beautiful quiet corners throughout this elegant dwelling in which to escape the heat and dust of the busy streets below.

During your stay, it is well worth including one of the excellent excursions on offer to truly immerse yourself in the splendor and history of this bustling metropolis. It is also worth considering a stay up in the foothills at the twin property of Glenburn Tea Estate, a charming working tea plantation set in the rolling tea plantations just outside of Darjeeling
