This beautiful home to the erstwhile royal family of Mayurbhanj, is now a royal residency for the intrepid traveler, located equidistance from Kolkata and Bhubaneshwar in the northern part of Odisha.  Journey into another time, whilst simultaneously engaging with the local communities of today, to truly explore and experience the extraordinary state of Odisha, guided by the passionate owners of the Palace Princess Mrinalika and Akshita Bhanjdeo.

Descending from the Bhanjja Kings of the region, it was during the British Raj that these progressive rulers were well known for their passionate upliftment of the region and its people, establishing educational institutions and banks, and who were known for their generous and forward thinking governance. 

The impressive Belgadia Palace is an 18th century Victorian manor house, with a double fronted façade and striking Corinthian columns. Throughout the palace you will find lavish interiors, including Persian rugs, chandeliers and ornate furnishings. Choose from one of the nine large, heritage bedrooms with all the modern amenities and comforts with colourful textiles and antique furnishings throughout.   The rooms on the ground floor all open out onto the long veranda.  

Breakfast is typically alfresco in the fragrant gardens, whereas the main meals are served in the formal dining room, either in your own company or with the family should you wish. The cuisine is mainly delicious home-style Indian and local delicacies, using a variety of locally grown vegetables and grain.

The grand residency is set within many acres of mango orchards, outdoor patios and gardens. The open verandas, originally built as viewing parlors for the ladies of the house are perfect for an afternoon lounging, reading to the chorus of birdsong.

Here there is much to do from village walks, bird watching safaris at the nearby Similar National Park, heritage walks and exploring the local arts and crafts, at the weekly village market. The local Jagannath temple is a replica of the famous temple in Puri dating back to the 14th century.  Experience the lively evening aarti, a deeply spiritual experience.
